LIFE Exhibits
The LIFE exhibit is based on Frans Lanting’s epic multi-year project, Life: A Journey Through Time, a lyrical interpretation of life on earth from its earliest beginnings to its present diversity. In the year 2000, Frans Lanting set off on a journey of photographic discovery that parallels new scientific insights about the story of life on earth. His search was wide-ranging and provocative, leading him into primordial landscapes that preserve time capsules of life’s history and into unique museum collections of fossils and microscopic life. The result is a glorious celebration of planet Earth that aims to educate and inspire through images and stories of the amazing biodiversity that surrounds us.
A traveling exhibit of LIFE was launched in September 2006 at Naturalis, the National Museum of Natural History of the Netherlands, and is now touring Europe and the United States. The exhibit combines large photographic prints with interpretive text panels and optional audiovisual components. A second exhibition of LIFE was launched in November 2007 at the annual Festival della Scienza, in Genoa, Italy, and is currently touring as well. The exhibit is approximately 300 linear feet but is flexible.
